A 26-year-old beggar smashed a beer bottle on a girl's head and then stabbed her abdomen with the broken pieces of glass in Navi Mumbai's Nerul. The incident happened on December 4 when the girl was coming to her college. The beggar, identified as Imam Hassan Shamshuddin, has been arrested. The 21-year-old college student is critically injured and is being currently treated in a hospital.
According to reports, the girl was a resident of Navi Mumbai's Airoli area. She had come to college in Nerul along with a friend. While she was at the bus stop at around 1:30 pm, the beggar came and attacked her without any provocation. The beggar fled the crime scene after attacking her.
The passers-by immediately rushed the girl to Apollo Hospital in Belapur where the girl is being treated currently.
Investigation launched
Police have arrested the beggar registering a case of attempt to murder. An investigation has been launched into the case to find the reason behind the crime and prosecute the accused. The accused was traced through a CCTV camera of the area. Reportedly, the beggar is mentally unstable.
Similar cases
In the same district, last month, a 23-year-old man was arrested for allegedly attacking his wife with wife inside the women's police station. The couple had been summoned in the station for marital counselling. The wife had filed a complaint against her husband for torturing and illtreating her. She also alleged that he suspected her of extra-marital affair.
In a similar case in 2012, a man in Bengaluru attacked a woman who was partying at a club. He smashed a beer bottle on her head which made her get 19 stitches in the head and almost lose her hearing ability. The incident reminded people about Jessica Lal's murder case. The survivor, Gina, was trying to save her friend from the assailant who was forcing her to dance with him.
