The BCCI on Friday presented cash prizes to six Indian women cricketers in Bengaluru. Sudha Shah, Shantha Rangaswamy, Pramila Bhat and Mamatha Maben, Sujatha Sridhar and V. Kalpana were among the women cricketers who were awarded in a ceremony held ahead of the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians.
Shah received a prize of Rs 30 lakh while Rangaswamy, Bhat and Maben were honoured with Rs 25 lakh. Kalpana was given Rs 15 lakh in cash. Sridhar, who was also in the awardees' list, was to receive Rs 15 lakh but she was not present to receive her prize money.
BCCI had set a bar of 25-49 Tests to be played by a cricketer to receive the highest cash prize, 10-24 test matches for the second prize and the third prize for cricketers who played 1 to 9 test matches. It also announced that every three ODIs will also be considered as one test match.
Earlier this week, former female cricketers were also awarded a one-time benefit award in Hyderabad for their contribution to Indian cricket. Former Indian team director and commentator Ravi Shastri awarded Behroze Edulji, Sunita Singh, Vrinda Bhagat, Deepa Kulkarni, Sangita Dabir and Arundhati Ghosh with the token cheques.

However, the former women cricketers will have to wait until next week for the money to be credited in their account. This has happened because a number of BCCI office-bearers were confused about the committee of administrator’s (COA) approval to disburse the one-time payments, reported Indian Express.
BCCI treasurer Anirudh Chaudhary received confirmation from the COA on Friday and will be processing the cash awards in the next three days.
“The COA had approved the idea to reward women cricketers and we have done that. The order of the COA has been followed and now payments will be made. Last month, it was decided in the IPL governing council meeting that they will be felicitated during the IPL and that the actual cheques will be handed out later,” Chowdhury said.
