Last Surviving Daughter of Last Nizam Of Hyderabad Passes Away At 93

Sahebzadi Basheerunnisa Begum passed away

The last surviving child of Nizam VII Mir Osman Ali Khan, Sahebzadi Basheerunnisa Begum passed away in the small hours of Tuesday, 28 July 2020, reports The Hindu. The Nizam was the last ruler of the Hyderabad State. Basheerunnisa Begum was born in 1927, she died at the age of 93 of natural causes.

Sahebzadi Basheerunnisa Begum took her last breaths in her home in the Osman Cottage on the premises Purani Haveli, Hyderabad. She lived with her only daughter, Rasheedunnisa Begum. Begum was married to Kasim Nawaz Jung ‘Ali Pasha’. The family members revealed that she was buried near the Dargah of Hazrat Yahiya Pasha in Misrigunj later the same day.

Nawab Najaf Ali Khan, the grandson of the Nizam and president of the Nizam Family Welfare Association, said, "The last of all the surviving children of the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad, HEH Nawab Mir Osman Ali Khan Bahadur has passed away. It is a big loss to the family as Sahebzadi Basheer Unnissa Begum Saheba was an epitome of Hyderabadi culture, tradition, and values." He added, "Born in September 1927, Basheerunnisa Begum was married to Nawab Kazim Nawaz Jung, better known as Ali Pasha.”

City historian and researcher, Mohammad Safiullah, said, “It is a big loss to Hyderabad as Sahebzadi Basheerunnisa Begum was an epitome of Hyderabadi culture, tradition and values. She was one of the favourite daughters of the Nizam.”

INTACH city convener P. Anuradha Reddy commiserated the death of  Sahebzadi Basheerunnisa Begum and said she represented the old Hyderabadi transition and culture. Reddy said, “Ali Pasha was the most powerful noble of his days. He was not only the favourite son-in-law of the Nizam VII but also the most trusted among the royal family. Ali Pasha was a confidant of the Nizam till the latter’s death in 1967.” Ali Pasha had expired in 1998.

The Seventh Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan had 16 daughters and 18 sons, all of whom have now passed away. The Times Of India reported, the Nizam VII was the richest man of his times and among the top 10 richest persons to have ever lived on the planet. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren now carry forward his legacy.
