Bappi Lahiri And Wife Chitrani: A Marriage Of Nearly Five Decades

Many years also the artist had appeared on a talk show named Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai hosted by late actor Farooq Shaikh where he talked about Lahiri talked about his marriage to Chitrani.

Lahiri met his wife in childhood because their families knew each other. The artist said that whenever he used to meet Chitrani, he used to feel inspired. The same inspiration showed in the songs Lahiri song for his wife later. He wrote song lyrics dedicated to Chitrani and performed them passionately.

Bappi Lahiri Chitrani Lovestory

In 2003, Bappi Lahiri wrote the song Pyar Manga Hai. He recorded the song at Famous Studio in Tardeo. Chitrani had also accompanied him to the studio. The song was inspired by Chitrani, it was dedicated to Chitrani. The lyrics of the song went, "pyar manga hai tumhi se, na inkaar karo, paas baitho zara aaj tum, ikraar karo." The couple got married in 1977 when Lahiri was 23-years-old and Chitrani was 18.

Talking about his lovestory, Bappi Lahiri had told Farooq Shaikh, "Actually we are family friends, from childhood… Bas kya hua, I don’t know."

The duo grew up in Kolkata and that is where they met each other at very young age, Chitrani had said. Lahiri continued, "As she said, we were family friends. I had met her long ago in Kolkata, when we were both very young. But whenever I used to meet her, I was inspired. Then, I had recorded a song for a film called Pratima Aur Payal…" He added that the song did not end up being a hit but he sang it with all his heart. The song's lyrics also had Chitrani's name in it.

Lahiri rose to fame in the 1980s and went on to become the Disco King of Bollywood. He made dance music popular in India. His demise came as a shock to many Indians. Lahiri died from sleep apnea on Tuesday night. The artist was paid tribute by many film from the film industry and dignitaries. The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi tweeted, "Shri Bappi Lahiri Ji’s music was all encompassing, beautifully expressing diverse emotions. People across generations could relate to his works. His lively nature will be missed by everyone. Saddened by his demise. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti."
