Great British Bake Off star Laura Adlington opened up about how people were despising her online. She said that the show made her vulnerable to hate to such an extent that she felt as if 'she had murdered someone.'
Paul Hollywood, the judge on the series was compelled to back Adlington after fans expressed that Adlington should have been eliminated instead of fan-favourite Hermine in the semi-finals. Laura ended up being the runner-up in the show.

Adlington spoke about her battle with anxiety while the show was being aired. Although she enjoyed being a part of Bake Off, she admitted that it was quite tough to be under the constant public gaze. People started abusing her when their favourite contestant Hermine got eliminated instead of her. Adlington had later tweeted that she had got nothing to do with Hermine's elimination and that she was faultless. She also wrote that the show professes kindness and not hate.

Moreover, Hermine had even posted a message urging her fans to stop abusing Adlington, her former competitor. “Honour my time in GBBO by showing love and kindness. Behind what looks like characters on your TV are real people," she wrote.
Similar abuse face by other contestants
Another contestant from the show was subjected to racial abuse when he took a bus ride towards home. Ali Imdad, a 32-year-old chef on the show was blamed for causing several 'bombings'. He said that he was questioned about where his parents come from. Imdad said that he was forcibly made to feel like a 'criminal' especially after the driver told him to get down.
