A 50-year-old woman was allegedly gangraped and murdered in Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday night. The woman worked as an Anganwadi worker. An FIR was registered on Tuesday evening and three people, including a priest and his two disciples, have been named. Police from Ughaiti police station in Badaun has booked them under Indian Penal Code sections 376-d (gang-rape) and 302 (murder). Two of them have been arrested on Tuesday.
According to the police, the middle-aged woman went to a temple in a village in the district and there she was allegedly gangraped, The Times of India reported. Police further revealed that the post-mortem examination confirmed that the woman sustained several injuries including broken ribs, fractured legs and her lungs were attacked with a heavy object. Her private parts were "severely brutalised", sources said. An autopsy report also revealed that an iron rod was inserted into her private parts.

Accused Priest was later booked
The station house officer of Ughaiti police station has been suspended for negligence, according to The New Indian Express. As per reports, the accused Priest and his two aides dropped the woman at home and told the family that she had fallen in a dry well on the worship premises. The husband said, “My wife was alive by then. But before we could understand anything or ask any question, they left in the car. After a few minutes, my wife succumbed to the injuries. She had multiple injuries, including those on private parts.” The woman was bleeding and reportedly died later that night.

The woman’s elder son said, “We were sure that the priest and his aides were lying. They didn’t take my mother to hospital.” Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Budaun, Sankalp Sharma, however, said, “The post-mortem has confirmed injuries on private part and the reason of death is shock and haemorrhage due to ante-mortem injuries." He further stated, "On Sunday, the 50-year-old woman, who had gone to a temple, was found dead under mysterious circumstances. Family members of the woman have accused the temple mahant and his aides of raping and murdering her. Based on this, a case was registered against the accused. Two of the accused persons were arrested on Tuesday night."
He noted that the priest is still missing but they have launched multiple teams to nab the accused.
