Australian Woman Gang Raped On Paris' Streets Ahead Of Olympics

Paris, entitled to host the Olympics 2024, is in the news after an alleged gang rape of a 25-year-old Australian woman took place on the city's streets.

Paris, the city entitled to host the Olympics, is news for the alleged gang rape of a 25-year-old Australian woman. After midnight on July 20, a group of five men of gang raped the woman, and as per the CCTV footage, the woman in dishevelled clothes was seen taking shelter at a kebab store where the owners and diners help her out.

As per reports, the woman was out in the city on July 19 at around 5 am. It was on July 20, when she was wandering about the streets of Moulin Rouge cabaret, that five men approached her and gang raped her. 

Woman rescued by the kebab shop owners

With torn clothes inside out, the woman ran into a kebab shop to seek refuge. A woman diner approached her with water while the owners tried to calm her down. Just then a man walked in and the woman pointed at him to be one of her violators. 

But the owners of the kebab shop didn't understand English so they went to look for an English speaker. The man lingered around and patted the woman's back. He placed an order and then he was confronted by the owners and diners. The man then fled the scene. 

The completely disoriented woman was being comforted by the people at the shop. The owners called the emergency responders after their failed attempts to calm the woman down.

The woman who wasn't able to speak a word of French couldn't narrate the incident properly. The two officers who were trying to ask her about the ordeal couldn't get any details of the exact location and circumstances of the incident from the woman. 

According to BBC, the Paris Prosecutor's Office said that the investigation of the allegations is ongoing and the CCTV is being reviewed. 

The Australian woman had booked a flight home on the day after the attack. But she had to stay in Paris to guide the investigation. 

The Australian Olympic team cautioned

The news has created an environment of fear as the Olympics is just around the corner. Australia's Olympic team chief Anna Meares told a news agency that the team is aware of the incident and has been asked to take extra care. 

Meares further added, "We don't yet have any feedback from our athletes that they have felt unsafe. We are encouraging them, if they go out of the village, not to go out on their own, not to wear team uniform, just to wear plain clothes."

There is currently a huge surveillance by the Paris Police anticipating the Olympics starting on July 26.
