Australian Open: Coco Gauff Crashes Out, Serena Williams Advances

Coco Gauff Crashes Out of Australian Open: Fifth-seeded Elina Svitolina defeated 16-year-old Coco Gauff 6-4, 6-3 in the second round of the Australian Open. Serena Williams progressed to the fourth round alongside Garbine Muguruza.

The American player, Gauff believes that her game has improved from a year ago. "Today I feel like I played better," said Gauff in a post-match conference. The teenage sensation was unable to recreate her magical run from last year. Gauff's campaign in the Grand Slam ended on Thursday.

Coco Gauff Crashes Out of Australian Open:

The 16-year-old became one of the best players at the Australian Open last year by beating tennis legend Venus Williams and then champion Naomi Osaka to reach the fourth round.

Forty-eight-ranked Gauff was the youngest player in the women’s draw. She reached the round of 16 at the 2020 Australian Open with wins over experienced players but lost to eventual champion Sofia Kenin.

23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams, on the other hand, overcame a tough Russian Anastasia Potapova 7-6(5) 6-2 to register her 90th win in the Australian Open on Friday. She will next face Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka.
