At last, gender parity in daily allowances for women’s and men’s cricket teams

The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced on Monday that it would pay the members of the women’s team and the under-19s team the same daily allowances as it does men.

“The daily allowance for the India Under-19 boys team and senior India women team was increased and fixed at par with the senior India men team,” the BCCI said in a statement. “All of them will get 125 USD per day on international tours and the equivalent of 100 USD in home series.”

The decision was made by the BCCI’s working committee, headed by its president, Anurag Thakur, according to The Indian Express.

The BCCI has been steadily taking steps to bring the women's game on par with their male counterparts. Earlier this year in June, the BCCI women cricket committee had announced that the women cricketers would be able to play in the overseas leagues in England and Australia. Following this landmark decision, ace cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur became the country’s first woman cricketer to sign a deal with an overseas Twenty20 franchise. The 27 year-old is all set to play for Sydney Thunder in the Women’s Big Bash League for the season on 2016-2017 in December.

Besides, there are also talks floating around about organising a Women's T20 league.

It's great that such measures are being taken to bring men and women on a equal footing, at least in sports.
