Who is Hridoy Babu? The social media star is one of six arrested in Bengaluru for the sexual assault of a young girl. Hridoy Babu (also known as Ridoy) and the others are allegedly linked to human trafficking network, for which they had brought the survivor to India from Bangladesh.
A horrific video of them assaulting and torturing the 22-year-old girl had gone viral on the internet, predominantly in Assam and other northeastern states, following which the issue had come to light. A timeline of the case here.
Reports on May 28 said Babu and another accused Rakibul Sagar were shot at by police during an alleged attempt to flee custody. Both reportedly sustained leg injuries and were admitted to hospital for treatment. The six accused - four men, two women - are in police custody till June 10.

Hridoy Babu, 25, is a big TikTok figure in Bangladesh, reports following his arrest have revealed. Using his fame and following on TikTok, Hridoy Babu used to "lure" women to unknown locations with the intent of trafficking them.
Times of India, quoting police, reports Hridoy Babu is only an alias and the man's real name is Rifadul Islam.
He is the prime accused in the case, authorities said, stating, "We learnt that Ridoy had shot videos with girls and uploaded them on an online platform and gained popularity in Bangladesh. He misused his popularity and supplied women to the traffickers by promising jobs in Bengaluru and other cities."
The survivor in the Bengaluru assault case, who went missing when the case surfaced, was traced to Kozhikode, Kerala by police teams where she was seeking refuge with a friend, as per reports. Following medical examinations in Bengaluru, the girl recorded her statement. A Deccan Herald report states she worked in Dubai and Mumbai, prior to coming to Bengaluru.
