Assam rape and murder case: According to police reports, two cousin sisters were found hanging from a tree. The incident took place in a remote village in Kokrajhar district of Assam.
On June 12, police reported that they recovered two bodies of girls inside a small forest in Abhayakuti village. The girls were soon identified to be sisters. The bodies of the deceased were recovered late on Friday evening, a senior police officer said.
Police have confirmed that the two cousin sisters were both minors. The bodies of the deceased have been sent to Kokrajhar Civil Hospital for further scientific inquiry and post-mortem examination.
Locals have reported that the two girls were missing since Friday afternoon. During the investigation, the police are also looking at the possibility of suicide besides murder and rape. But the families of the girls strongly contested that and alleged that the girls were raped and murdered.
A case has been registered and an investigation has been started. Officials also said that the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma will be visiting the village today to see the situation of the incident.
