In the horrific case of Assam minors rape and murder, in which two girls were found hanging from a tree in the Kokrajhar area, activists in the state have demanded quick justice and action. As per latest reports, seven accused were arrested in connection to the case June 15.
Families of the two girls, cousins, had alleged rape when their bodies were discovered on June 11, arguing against suicide. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took early cognisance in the case and asked for investigation to be fast-tracked.

Local reports say organisations like the Bodo Women Co-ordination Committee staged protests in Kokrajhar on Saturday, calling for due punishment and just action against the perpetrators. "The case should be tried in a fast track court so that the victims’ family gets justice and this will also serve as a warning against those who indulge in such heinous crimes," a protestor was quoted saying.

The two minor cousins (14 and 16 years old) reportedly went missing last week June 11, found dead hours later. The deaths had been made to look like suicides. Family however suspected foul play and those involved in the crime were arrested within three days.

Three in the case have been charged with raping and murdering the girls while four accused are charged with conspiracy and evidence concealment, as per reports. Farijul Rahman, one of the prime accused, was shot when he allegedly tried to attack police and escape.
"The police fired two rounds. One bullet hit his right leg," authorities said. He was admitted to hospital without life risk, as per police.
