In Assam Minor Rape And Murder Accused Shot: In the Morigaon district of Assam, a 65-year-old man who was arrested for the rape and murder of a nine-year-old girl was injured in police firing on Friday morning while allegedly trying to flee from custody.

According to special DGP, GP Singh, Syed Ali who is accused of rape and murder of a minor girl at Bhuragaon, Morigaon district, Assam, tried to escape under the garb of answering nature's cause while being taken for reconstruction of the scene of the crime.

DGB Singh added that the police had to use minimum law force to prevent his escape and has been injured with bullet injury in the knee and taken to hospital for treatment. The incident is the fourth instance of an accused person being injured in police firing while trying to escape custody in the past month.

The other three accused who were injured in similar incidents were a drug peddler, a rape accused and a cattle smuggler, who sustained injuries when the police fired at them for allegedly trying to escape.

The accused in the case man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly raping and murdering a nine-year-old girl in a paddy field on June 20. The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, visited the girls home and directed the police to speed up the investigation.

According to the girl's post-mortem report, it was revealed that she was sexually assaulted and the cause of her death was strangulation.
