The State Government of Assam has decided to appoint Sprinter Hima Das as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), state finance minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma announced. He said, “our government is pleased to announce Hima Das, our own Dhing Express, as the first recipient of this policy." Assam government has decided to award Grade-I officer positions, such as DSP and Magistrate to sportspersons who have won medals in Olympic, Asian and Commonwealth Games from the state. The move endeavours to encourage youngsters to pursue a career in sports. The government took this decision as a part of its budget 2020-21.
The government will also allocate a sum of Rs 1,000 crore for Swami Vivekananda Youth Empowerment Yojana (SVYEY), India Today reported. Swami Vivekananda Youth Empowerment Yojana (SVYEY) will enable the youth to engage in various economic activities without leaving their native places. Recently, a stadium was named after Hima Das in Rajasthan.

Hima Das thanked the Assam government over Twitter. She also said, "Today I reaffirm my commitment to push my limits and excel in the upcoming Games and bring laurel to Assam and Bharat."

She holds the national record in 400 metres with a timing of 50.79 s that she clocked at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia.
