The story of a girl in Assam's Sualkuchi region who showed her love by risking her life has gone viral online. She reportedly injected her body with her boyfriend's HIV-positive blood out of what she claimed was a tremendous feeling for her lover.

The 15-year-old Assamese girl fell in love with an HIV-positive teenager from Satdola in Hajo over Facebook, according to reports. After three years, their love and connection had become so deep that they were unable to be separated.

Assam Girl Injects HIV Positive Blood

The 15-year-old girl reportedly left with the boy before being taken back by her parents. However, this time the girl did something that no one could have ever imagined. The girl injected herself with blood taken from her lover, who had HIV, using a syringe.

According to reports, doctors are currently keeping an eye on the girl while Hajo police detained the boyfriend. An estimated 36.7 million (34.0 million–39.8 million) persons worldwide are HIV-positive as of the end of 2015. According to UNAIDS Fact Sheets from November 2016, in 2015, 2.1 million persons (between 1.8 million and 2.4 million) contracted HIV for the first time, while 1.1 million (940,000–1.3 million) died from an AIDS-related illness.

According to the research, worldwide new HIV infections among children have decreased by 50% since 2010, but not among adults, and the number of AIDS-related fatalities has decreased by 45% since its high in 2005. According to UNAIDS, 18.2 million people had access to antiretroviral medication by June 2016 compared to 15.8 million in June 2015 and 7.5 million in 2010.

The adult HIV prevalence in India was estimated to be 0.26 per cent in 2015, down from 0.38 per cent in 2001–2003, according to the Technical Report on India HIV Estimates 2015.

While adult HIV prevalence and annual new HIV infections are still declining in high prevalence states, new HIV infections among adults are on the rise in a select few low prevalence states between 2007 and 2015.

Both high and low HIV prevalence states can be found in the northeastern region of India. At 1.15 per cent in 2015, Manipur had the highest estimated adult HIV prevalence in the nation.
