On 20 September, Tuesday, Bharti Jaffrey, daughter of legendary thespian Ashok Kumar, passed away after suffering from a prolonged illness. Bharti’s son-in-law, Actor Kanwaljit Singh conveyed the news of her demise on social media. Singh is married to Jaffrey's daughter Anuradha Patel.
Kanwaljit shared a picture on Instagram and wrote, “Our beloved Bharti Jaffrey, Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, Neighbour, Friend, and inspiration has departed us today 20 Sep. We will bring her home at 1.30 pm today for her final goodbye.”
Bharti Jaffery Film Career
Bharti Jaffrey was born in Mumbai. Bharti Jaffrey starred in movies such as Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa (1998), Saans (1999), and Daman: A Victim of Marital Violence (2001). Jaffrey did some notable acting in TV shows also. Her career in this industry was not prolific but she had a great influence on Bollywood personalities in her life. Jaffrey married Saeed Jaffrey’s brother, Hamid Jaffrey.
Anuradha Patel is her daughter. Rupa Verma, Preeti Ganguly, and Aroop Ganguly are her siblings. Jaffrey’s father Ashok Kumar, ruled the industry for decades along with his brothers, Anoop Kumar and Kishore Kumar. Bollywood actors Kajol and Rani Mukerji are her nieces and filmmaker Ayan Mukerji is her nephew.

Filmmaker Nandita Das confirmed the news and condoled her death. She spoke to ETimes, “Bharti Jaffrey was a vivacious and warm person and everyone will miss this affection and warmth. Though Anuradha (Patel) and Kanwaljit (Singh) are family friends, Bharti di endeared us to her with her thoughtful gestures. She never forgot to wish me every birthday. Or pick up a souvenir from her trips. I will miss her very much. And not forgetting she was an extremely talented actress.”
