“I’m extremely fortunate to have such an amazing network around me. It’s very special to have mum, dad and my very first coach, Jim, here. They gave me the unconditional love and support time and time again in all the bad times," she added thanking her mother Josie, father Robert and first coach Jim Joyce. “In good times, they’re always there and there are a few words they said to me: ‘I love to watch you play’. When your mum and dad say that to you, when your coach says that to you, that makes the heart race a little bit - like it’s racing right now,” she expressed.

This month alone she not only won the WTA Finals but also bagged a massive US$4.42 million paycheque – the highest sum ever rewarded in men’s and women’s tennis. She broke the record by outclassing defending champion Elina Svitolina to win the WTA Finals. “Honestly, it’s been incredible and I’m very grateful they’re here tonight to share it with me as well,” Barty said during the award ceremony.

The journey to World No 1 was outstanding since Barty started the season ranked 15th without a grand slam quarter-final to her name. She finishes the season as the best player in the world. She made it to the top 10 in March, when she won the Miami Open. And, she won four tournaments back to back and claimed Roland Garros and Birmingham titles to become world No 1.
