An army major and his wife in Assam’s Dima Hasao district were arrested on September 26 by the police for allegedly torturing their minor domestic help. The army personnel has been identified as Major Shailendra Yadav, who is currently posted in Himachal Pradesh’s Palampur.
Dima Hasao's Superintendent of Police, Mayank Kumar, said that they received information on September 24 about the couple abusing and brutally torturing the minor girl.
Yadav and his wife, Kimmy Ralson, who hail from Haflong, have been married for the past two years since he was posted in Dima Hasao district.
When Major Yadav got transferred from Haflong in Assam to Himachal Pradesh, Kimi Ralson took the minor girl with her from Sankijang village to assist her with domestic chores and babysitting.
Army Major's Wife Tortures Minor Domestic Help
However, Kimmy Ralson allegedly subjected the minor girl to severe child abuse. The minor girl was physically tortured, scalded with hot water, and forcibly stripped. The girl finally returned to her family in Haflong on September 24, as reported by India Today.
As seen on a video by NDTV, the minor survivor, whose face is blurred, explains that the army major's wife locked her inside a room, beat her with a rolling pin, pulled her hair, starved her and made her eat out of a dustbin, and stripped her. The girl was allegedly asked to lick her own blood from the injuries she sustained.
According to the medical report, the girl had broken teeth, a damaged ear, burn marks on her body, a fractured nose, and deep cuts in her tongue. Reportedly, the accused couple claimed that the girl had sustained the injuries after suffering a fall from the stairs in their house.
However, during the investigation, evidence was found against the army major and his wife. Thereafter, Major Yadav and Kimmy Ralson were arrested and produced before the additional court of the Haflong judicial magistrate, which sent them to judicial custody.
The minor girl is currently receiving treatment at Haflong Civil Hospital in Assam. SP Kumar stated that a further probe is underway and assured that stringent action will be taken against the guilty.
Cases under Section 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 374 (unlawful compulsory labour), 354 (assault or criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 506 (criminal intimidation), 370 (buying or disposing of any person as a slave), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) have been filed. Cases under the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act have also been registered by the Dima Hasao police against the army personnel and his wife.
