Continuing the many trends people cross every day, one particular trend has left many bereft of speech while others are curious to know more about it. The trend is- Armpit sweat-infused rice balls which have been on the regular mill for a while in Japan.
The Original Onigiri
While rice balls (commonly known as 'onigiri' in Japanese delicacy) are a staple dish of many Japanese, it has been served worldwide now like sushi and many think of it as a healthy alternative to many dishes. Culturally and historically, rice balls have been an integral part of Japanese cuisine for their multitude of uses and travel-friendly characteristics. Usually, the rice balls or onigiri are made by kneading the rice into a triangular shape using hands and oiling them as well for the good shape and size of an onigiri.
The recent trend shifts this technique by using armpits instead of hands. From the clips circulated, it has come to attention that before using their armpits the chef physically moves in order to induce sweat that would then help in moulding the rice into the perfect triangle shape of an onigiri.
"10 Times Surge In Prices"
The users have had mixed reactions while some people have commented on its scientific usage. While reporting this trend South China Morning Post mentioned how research from 2013 explains the importance of the sweat produced by armpits. It mentions that sweat from our armpits contains pheromones which can affect human emotions when sensed or tasted.
The users have raised hygiene concerns over the preparation of this dish and others have embraced the trend and mentioned how there is no difference in taste compared to the original onigiri prepared using hands. Keeping in mind that many users have held themselves back due to its preparation, many restaurants and creators have posted videos preparing the rice balls using the armpit technique and showing how carefully it is prepared.
Even though it might seem absurd to some, the most astonishing thing noticed is how these armpit-infused sweat rice balls have been in demand more than original onigiri and their prices have skyrocketed ten times more than handmade onigiri. The surge in its demand has made users wonder about two things, firstly, how easily is today's generation influenced by new and unique trends and are willing to experience these trends themselves. Secondly, people are getting more imaginative and creative every day and with the right marketing anything can be sold and bought.
