The big companies are hiring women, is it going in the right direction? The copany like Apple is generating a good amount of jobs for Indians, majorly for women. Interestingly, among the 1 lakh new people hired by Apple, almost 72% were women including freshers and skilled personnel. The company is looking forward to manufacturing 25% iPhones in India by 2025 and to see that it is entrusting women with the responsibility of its expansion and operations is a refreshing sight. However, this is genuinely to empower women, attain equality in work force or just because they are under radar, is the question.
Apple Hired 72 Percent Women In India
These females were hired in various roles in companies in India, for instance- Foxconn. Around 30,000 females were hired by Foxconn among the 72% which also includes new female hires in Apple's supplier companies in India.`In fact, Jabil has about 4200 female workers out of its total workforce of 7000 which is more than half its people. Most of the female workforce is of the age group 19-24 years and most of them are in fact first-time employees. This shows that the company is looking for young talent for its future vision and giving women a chance to lead its operations.
It is great to see that companies are promoting gender equality in the workplace and giving women the opportunity to lead. We will never know what women are capable of if we don't give them a chance. There are many companies led by women around the world that are doing great and expanding their reach. It is often seen that women are paid less than men for the same amount of work they do and are considered less eligible than males with the same experience to take up leading positions. People tend to regard a woman's household responsibilities and even emotional rationality as a hurdle in their career which is absurd.
Though we can see women leaders in the corporate sector, we will notice that it is only leading companies that offer leadership roles and opportunities to women workers. In small companies that are away from the scrutiny of the media tend to get away with not even maintaining the minimum number of female employees at the workplace. It is hard to interpret whether hiring more women is actually good intentions of women empowerment or just a way to create a good image in the media. Either way, as long as women get the opportunity, they will show what they are capable of.
Whether small or big, give equal opportunity to women employees and don't restrict them to supportive roles when they have the caliber of leading. Also, it is important that we don't associate a woman's personal and household duties to her work performance, she knows how to keep her personal and professional life separate and the recruiters should respect and acknowledge that. They should not ask a woman if she can handle the role of a CEO while being a mother when they are not asking the same question to a man.
