Aparajita Acharya visited the spot in Kargil where her father lost his life while fighting for the country. She shared that she never saw her father but his guidance continued to be with her through memories and letters which are survived by the family.
Major Padmapani Acharya, Aparajita's father died during the Kargil war on June 28, 1999. Major Acharya's wife Charulatha was six months pregnant at that time. He was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra. Letters written by Major Acharya to his father read how proud he was to serve his country.
Major Acharya also asked his father to read Mahabharata to his daughter in the womb. The letter read, "Dear Papa… don’t worry about casualties- it’s a professional hazard beyond our control. At least it is for a good cause. ... Please tell manam (his mother) that combat is an honour of a lifetime and I would not think of anything less."
The letter further read, "Tell a story a day of the Mahabharata to Charu (his wife), so that your grandchild imbibes good values."
Aparajita Acharya who has been an NCC cadet, spoke about missing her father's presence while growing up but she added that she never missed his guidance. She said that her father has never been absent in her life as he has lived through the memories, letters and family support. Aparajita also said that she won't shed a tear as her dad died defending the country.
