- Through social media, students and alumni of the school alleged that under the guise of being a “father figure”, the teacher harassed the students.
- The teacher taught commerce at the school for more than 10 years.
- Allegedly the teacher had access to his students’ personal information and would send inappropriate messages.
- A former student said that he would “spank female students under the guise of disciplining them” and “thrash and verbally abuse” the male students that questioned his behaviour.
- Students mentioned that the teacher would molest, grope, physically abuse, slut-shame, hug students without their consent, and discriminate between students on the basis of their physical appearance.
- The students of the school also alleged that the school management did not take any action when complaints against the teacher were brought to their attention. Some students that stood up against the teacher were deliberately held back a year.
- The former student reportedly said that when students called their parents to the school, the management allegedly responded by telling the parents that the students were “taking things in the wrong way”. The alumna added that after the allegations came out “there was no response from the school initially”.
- A signed statement from more than 300 students was sent to the Child Welfare Department, Police Commissioner’s office, Tamil Nadu POCSO Department, and the school.
- On Thursday, the school suspended the teacher and released a statement. The statement said that an inquiry had been initiated by the Internal Compliance Committee. The school added the teacher was instructed to not interact with any students, current and former.
- The teacher had been terminated from another school in 2005 for the same reason, but the previous school did not file a police complaint.
