Anjali Birla, the daughter of BJP leader and Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla, has cracked the Civil Services Examination in her first attempt. The results of the 2019 Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam, released recently, named Birla as one of its 89 candidates on the reserve list. 23-year-old Birla, who is the younger of two daughters, is a graduate in political science honours from Delhi University's Ramjas College.
Marking the occasion, Birla told news agency PTI on Tuesday, "I am very happy to get selected in this exam. I wanted to join the civil services to do something for the society as I always saw my father's commitment towards the people of the country." She attributed her success to her older sister Akansha, a chartered accountant, who reportedly helped in her UPSC exam preparations.

Who Is Anjali Birla?
With Birla's mother, Dr Amita Birla, serving as a doctor, sister Akansha as CA, and father Om Birla as a politician, the young officer has now joined her family in serving society. She told Times of India, "My entire family is serving the society... I chose the civil services to serve the society... I would be happy if I get a chance to work for women empowerment."
The 23-year-old is active on social media and often posts pictures alongside her parents on Instagram. In a post, Birla had spoken about the two-and-a-half-year dedication it had taken her to write the UPSC exams. "It’s been a thought changing , exciting , intellectually challenging and stimulating , determination filled journey which tested the mettle in me every day," she wrote.

Other UPSC Success Stories
In August last year, Pratibha Verma secured the All India Rank three in the Civil Services Exam 2019. Verma, who hails from Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, stood as the topper among women candidates across India.
Early last year, Tapaswini Das, a visually impaired student from Odisha, was among those who cleared the Civil Services 2018. She secured 161st position in the exam among over five lakh candidates.
