Clearing all the speculations, Saumya Tandon has finally said that she is quitting the show Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain! In an exclusive interview with Bombay Times, Tandon announced that she is not going to renew her contract with the comedy show. Adding that August 21, that is today, is the last day of her role as Anita Bhabhi.
In the interview, Tandon said that her decision to quit is “impractical” as she is leaving a stable job in an “established” show. But, she added, “Being employed and earning a regular income was not exciting enough any more. I want to do projects where there is scope for growth as an artist.”
She acknowledged that the show did contribute to her growth.“I had a beautiful journey on the show. However, I have played this character for five years now, and I don’t see myself doing it for another five years,” she added.
Refuting the rumours: Not quitting because of the pay cut
Earlier in the month of July, when Tandon’s hairdresser tested COVID-19 positive, she took a break from the show so that she could avoid the risk of being infected. Reportedly, she went on a 14-day quarantine. “I was anxious after my hairdresser tested positive for coronavirus, and I did not want to put my elderly mother and one-and-a-half-year-old son at risk,” she said in the interview.
However, now when the notice period has ended, Tandon refuted the rumours that she was not quitting the job because of the pandemic and the resultant pay cut, adding that it was not an impulsive decision to bid adieu to the comedy show. “As far as pay cut is concerned, in these times, people have to accept that the economy has been hit. I am not leaving the show because of monetary reasons,” Tandon said. She also appreciated the producers of the show Sanjay and Binaifer Kohli who have been cooperative and supportive throughout. “They have been great producers and respect them a lot.”

Calling Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hain show as her “comfort zone” Tandon said, “I will miss the entire team of 'Bhabi Ji...', but I have to push myself out of my comfort zone and take new risks in life.”
She also spoke about her future plans and said, “I want to be part of well-written stories. People are writing good scripts on other platforms; even Bollywood is experimenting with good content.”
Tandon has not said anything about the speculations that Big Boss 13 contestant Shefali Jariwala, popularly known as the 'Kaanta Laga Girl’ is expected to replace her in the show. However, the producer of the comedy show, Binaifer Kohli, had earlier refuted the rumour saying that she hasn't spoken to Jariwala about this at all. Read the full report here.
