The doctors' negligence can be life-threatening for patients. This is what has happened in the Bans Kheri village of Amroha, Uttar Pradesh. A doctor allegedly left a towel inside the stomach of a woman, when she was admitted to his hospital post labour pain. An investigation has already been incepted into the case.
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Rajeev Singhal said, "doctor, Matloob, allegedly left the towel in the belly of Nazrana after conducting her operation at Saifee Nursing Home, which he used to run without permission in the Naugawana Sadat police station area in Amroha."

However, as per the information, due to the alleged negligence of the medical staff, the towel was left inside Nazrana's stomach. When the lady complained about abdominal pain, the doctor kept her admitted for five more days citing that she was facing this stomach ache due to the cold outside. However, her health kept deteriorating and did not improve even after discharge. Later, the woman's spouse Shamsher Ali took her to another private hospital in Amroha where the real reason behind Narana's stomach ache was revealed. Another operation was initiated to remove the towel. Ali made a complaint against private doctor Matloob to the CMO seeking stringent action.
CMO Singhal on 3 January, Tuesday said, "I came to know about the incident through media reports and have asked nodal officer Dr. Sharad to look into the matter. We can give further details only after the investigation is completed."
Amroha Doctor Negligence case is just an add-up to other cases, where patients have lost their lives. In 2018January, a four-month-old baby died in Delhi after the doctor gave him a painkiller to provide relief in the stitches in the upper lip. In another case in Mathura, doctors reportedly left a needle in the head of a six-year-old after he underwent head surgery. In one case, a nurse gave a woman acid when she asked for water. The 60-year-old Shyamali Devi in the Vaishali district swallowed the acid kept in the bottle.
In the month of April 2022, Supreme Court pointed out that even the death of a patient cannot be considered to be medical negligence. Further said, the medical practitioner is not to be held liable just because things went wrong from mischance or through an error of judgment. Court added, “doctors are expected to take reasonable care, but no professional can assure that the patient will come back home after overcoming the crisis."
