Overwhelmed with the news, Amal's mother Baria, said: "We are over the moon. It was a beautiful delivery. The babies are beautiful and are doing well."
The couple had adopted a low profile during the pregnancy, keeping the news private for months. The actor's close friend Matt Damon confirmed it in February this year.
The popular American actor and philanthropist has received three Golden Globe Awards for his work. Two of his films 'Ocean's Eleven' and 'Three Kings' have won the Oscars.
Despite the pregnancy, Amal Clooney continued her work as a Human Rights lawyer, addressing the United Nations in March. She urged the international community to investigate crimes committed by the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq.
Her address, however, was brushed aside and it was her baby bump that was making news.
The Clooneys had tied the marital knot two-and-a-half years ago in Venice. They have been touted as one of the world's biggest celebrity couples.
