Prithvi Shaw was the target of a false and unsubstantiated accusation made by social media influencer Sapna Gill, according to a police officer who testified in front of Mumbai's Andheri Magistrate court on Monday.
Gill said that Shaw had harassed her on February 16 at a pub. After no FIR was filed on her allegation against Shaw, Sapna Gill filed a complaint against the Mumbai Airport police with the Andheri Magistrate court.
Gill attempted to file an FIR at the Andheri court with the assistance of her attorney, Ali Kaashif Khan. After hearing her complaint, the magistrate instructed the police to produce a report on the matter.
Khan asked the court to permit him to show the video of the alleged brawl that Gill's friend had captured on his phone after the police turned in their report. Additionally, he wanted a CCTV recording of the incident that happened outside the bar.
Prithvi Shaw - Sapna Gill Dispute
The case was postponed until June 28 after the judge requested that the police produce the video of the entire incident.
Gill had filed a complaint with an Andheri magistrate court asking for the registration of an FIR against Shaw and his friend Ashish Yadav for hitting her with a bat in violation of Indian Penal Code sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 509 (Word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), and 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means).
According to the police, a review of the pub's CCTV footage reveals that Gill and her friend Shobit Thakur were intoxicated and dancing. Shaw prevented Thakur from recording him with his phone when he attempted to do so. The police claimed that after watching the video, it didn't seem like Shaw and the others in any way abused Gill.
Police added that they had taped witness statements from the tavern where the alleged incident took place, and the witnesses had all said that Gill was not unlawfully touched.
Moreover, according to the police, the social media influencer was spotted following Shaw's car with a baseball bat in her hand, who also looked at nearby Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower CCTV footage. The cops further said that the video shows she smashed the cricketer's car's windscreen.
According to the report, authorities have testimony from Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officials who also denied that the incident Gill alleged never happened.
The officer noticed a woman with a bat in her hand. When they noticed authorities approaching the scene, her male friend snatched the bat from her and threw it to the side. According to the newspaper citing the CISF official's remark, none of the males present at the scene were assaulting the woman.
According to authorities, the inquiry carried out in response to Gill's complaint indicated that the accusations made against Prithvi Shaw and others are untrue and unjustified.
In response to Shaw's accusation, Gill was detained in February after a dispute over taking selfies at a hotel in a nearby town. Gill filed a complaint against Shaw for allegedly molesting and outraging modesty at the Mumbai Airport police station after receiving bail.
