Alka Mittal wiki bio: Alka Mittal is now the first woman to head ONGC as their Chairman and Managing Director. The appointment took place yesterday. She has replaced Subhash Kumar for the role after he retired on December 31, 2021.

- She will serve as the Chairman and Managing Director for a duration of either six months or till a regular chairperson is appointed. This depends on whichever happens first.
- She has scripted history by heading India’s largest exploration and production company.
- Besides that, she is also the second woman in the country to helm an oil company. The first woman was Nishi Vasudeva who created history in March 2014. She was heading Hindustan Petroleum.
- Mittal holds a post-graduate degree in Economics. She completed her MBA (HRM) and Doctorate in Commerce and Business Studies, as per a report.
- According to the company’s website, Mittal joined ONGC as a Graduate Trainee in 1985.

- She joined the company’s board on November 27, 2019.
- She's often credited with ensuring a safe working environment for their employees and especially for women employees. She also introduced an umpteen programs to nurture talent and upskill the large workforce of ONGC, especially women.
- Before she took up the duties of becoming the director, she was the head of skill development in ONG.
- When she was the CSD in-charge, she implemented the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) in ONGC. This engaged more than 5,000 apprentices across all work centres.
- Before this, she was working as Head CSR at the corporate office. In 2009, she used to lead the HR-ER functions in various capacities across regions including Vadodara, Mumbai, Delhi and Jorhat. During the same time, she was the head of corporate communications of ONGC.
