Alive not dead: A 76-year-old woman who was pronounced dead opened her eyes and came back to life a few moments before she was to be cremated, as her family was preparing for her last rites at Mudhale village in Baramati.

The woman has been identified as Shakuntala Gaikwad and she was tested positive for COVID-19 a few days ago. Gaikwad was in home isolation, but after her condition deteriorated due to old age, the family decided to move her to a nearby hospital in Baramati, Maharashtra.

The elderly woman was taken to Baramati in a private vehicle on May 10. Her family tried to secure a hospital bed for her but were failed to do so. As they waited for the hospital bed in the car, the woman fell unconscious and stopped moving, and the family assumed that she had died. They also informed their relatives about her last rites.

She was taken back home and the family started preparing for her cremation, and she was placed on the pier for her final journey as the relatives mourned for her loss. However, the woman suddenly started crying and then opened her eyes. Her family was very shocked and took her to the hospital.

Somnath Lande, the health officer of the village said that the incident is confirmed and sent her to the hospital on the spot after receiving the information. He also added that the family asked him to not share any further information on the grounds of privacy.

Santosh Gaikwad who is a policeman of the area also confirmed that the incident took place at Mudhale village in Baramati.

According to Dr Sadanand Kale, the founder of Silver Jubilee Hospital, the woman was admitted to the hospital in Baramati for further treatment.
