Spanish artist Alicia Framis is preparing to break new ground, not just in the art world, but in the very definition of love and marriage. This summer, she will become the first woman to marry an AI-generated hologram named AiLex in a ceremony blurring the lines between reality and simulation.
Framis' project, titled "Hybrid Couple," goes beyond a mere spectacle. It's an artistic exploration of love, relationships, and the evolving role of technology in our lives. AiLex, meticulously designed by Framis, isn't just a projected image; it's a sophisticated program capable of responding to emotions and holding empathy. Framis stated she designed him tailored "to satisfy her emotional needs." Framis described her virtual partner as a "middle-aged hologram with slightly complex logistics"
Who Is Alicia Framis? First Woman To Marry AI-Generated Hologram
Framis also acknowledged the fact that AI partners don't cater to the needs of poems, art, and warmth like humans, and are still closely linked to science that lacks these qualities.
However, expressing her wishes with her hologram partner, she expressed she wants to create an artistic documentary with the AI-generated hologram and explore integrating it into her daily life. Framis expressed she wants to draw and conduct interviews with other women, sketch bodies, arms, romantic dreams, and domestic situations sharing her daily life with her virtual partner.
Sharing the news of the romantic union of a human and an AI-generated hologram, AILex, where she wrote about love and sex with robots and holograms in the evolving digital age is inevitable. However, she explained that her motive is to emotionally involve artificial intelligence with humans hence she chooses a hologram to develop as she prefers holograms over robots.
Sharing videos and photographs of AiLex in her day-to-day life, Framis also compared virtual partners with mobile phones. "Just as phones saved us from loneliness and filled the void in our lives, holograms as interactive presences in our homes can take it even further."
Framis highlighted that AI and human companionship can be beneficial to cater the needs of companionship, citing an example of a widow friend who recently suffered from the loss of her husband and its hard for her to replace him, in such cases Framis suggested AI can be a good option for those in need of some company.
Framis Is now designing her own wedding dress and determining the attire of those who attend the wedding.
Whether a revolutionary act of love or a provocative performance, Framis' "Hybrid Couple" has sparked global conversations. It challenges traditional notions of love and relationships, forcing us to confront the possibilities of what defines love and intimacy in the age of AI.
