Alia Bhatt won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Actor for the role of Gangubai in Gangubai Kathiawadi. The actor took to social media to express her gratitude to all the people who helped in making the movie and the role come alive on-screen.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi is one of the most iconic female-led movies. The 2022 movie based on S Hussain Zaidi's book Mafia Queen Of Mumbai tells the story of Gangu, a simple girl whose life changes for the worse when her lover sells her to a brothel in Mumbai. However, with her will and determination, she not only rules Kamathipura but also stands up for the rights of sex workers. The movie is considered one of the best works of Alia Bhatt so far as she gracefully carried the white saree, red bindi look and portrayed the fearlessness of the real queen of Kamathipura.

Alia Bhatt On Gangubai Kathiawadi Filmfare Awards Win

The movie has been critically acclaimed on national and international level for showcasing the plight of sex workers in India. At the 68th Filmfare Awards, the movie won 10 awards including Alia Bhatt's Best Actor female. The actor took to her social media to describe her feelings on winning the honour. In her post, she recalled how working in the role of Gangu changed her life for good and how the outcome didn't matter to her as she was leaving with a lot of lessons from Bhansali, the crew and the character itself. She thanked Bhansali for believing in her and called Gangubai her 'alter ego'. She called him a magic-maker and dedicated and hardworking film maker.

Alia Bhatt thanked her team and audience for inspiring her to do better. She expressed gratitude for her family and in-laws, the Kapoors and Bhatts for supporting her and also her husband Ranbir Kapoor and daughter Raha.
