Reality TV shows often thrive on the coarsest of jokes. A recent sexist comment from Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar to comedian Mallika Dua has raised much hue and cry on social media.
In one of the recent episodes of 'Great Indian Laughter Challenge', Kumar told Dua, “Aap bell bajao main aap ko bajata hun.”
While this hasn’t been aired on the show that airs on Star Plus, Dua’s father and veteran journalist, Vinod Dua, came across the leaked clip that had his daughter embarrassed. A furious Dua posted on Facebook: “I am going to s***w this cretin Akshay Kumar for telling his co-worker Mallika Dua that "aap bell bajao main aap ko bajata hun". This is his sense of humor and language. Star Plus.. wake up..”
Mallika shared the post written by her father.

She also shared a separate tweet saying, “So, I want humour to be limitless. I also don't want to be uncomfortable at my work place. The lines are blurred.” However, Mallika deleted her tweets later.
She raises the pertinent issue of sexual harassment at workplace. Women in the entertainment industry are often at the helm of sexual misbehaviour.

Vinod Dua’s post has been taken off by Facebook but he spoke to IANS and said, “I don't expect an apology from Star Plus as they have not aired this episode. But I expect an apology from this fellow (Akshay Kumar).”
“Sorry to quash your hunger for sensationalism but Facebook and perhaps a copyright claim had it removed. Find something better to do”- Mallika Dua
A few hours back, Mallika clarified why her father’s post was deleted as she wrote on Twitter, “Sorry to quash your hunger for sensationalism but Facebook and perhaps a copyright claim had it removed. Find something better to do.”

Comedian and co-founder of AIB, Tanmay Bhat, spoke up in Mallika's favour. He tweeted, “She's played a sexually explicit character so she has no right to voice her opinion about harassment" - please, STFU.”

Just don't laugh. Never laugh when something is sexist and unfunny.

Kumar has also come under a scanner for obvious reasons. The actor has earlier posted videos on social media talking about women's empowerment. But this time he has definitely made a distasteful comment here!
