She stunned the nation once again with her power-packed performance in Omung Kumar’s Sarbjit (2016) and now Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Award for her role. The award ceremony took place on April 21 in Mumbai.
The award is not the same as Dadasaheb Phalke Awards presented by the Government of India at the National Awards ceremony held in New Delhi every year. Dadasaheb Phalke Film Foundation Awards started around three years ago and are given to artists for their contribution to Indian cinema, organised every year in Mumbai.

The actress, since her comeback in the industry, has made us fall in love with her once again with “Jazbaa” and now to celebrate her stellar performance in Sarbjit, won the award along with million hearts.
Ash appeared at the event, looking breathtakingly beautiful in an Anju Modi outfit. She was seen smiling for the shutterbugs with veteran actor Hema Malini who was also present at the awards ceremony.

In the movie, Ash played Dalbir Kaur -- the sister of convict Sarabjit Singh – who for 23 years long struggled for her brother freedom. A farmer from Punjab, Sarabjit Singh had strayed across the border into Pakistan, and was subsequently arrested and charged with terrorism and spying by Pakistani authorities. Insisting on her brother’s innocence, Kaur struggled over the years, fighting for his freedom and successfully caught global attention towards her brother’s plight in a Pakistani prison.

Around the release of her film, Aishwarya was quoted saying, “The film is the result of everybody’s labour. It can’t be an individual’s effort. Every department has put an effort. The script of ‘Sarbjit’ was brilliant and all of the actors in the film have given their soul to it. We had a huge responsibility.”
Kudos to you Aishwarya! Hard work finally pays off! Bollywood celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan, Rajkumar Rao, Asha Bhosle, Dilip Kumar have been also bagged the accolade in the past.
