Scoring such good marks meant that she had to put in a lot of hard work. The amount of hard work doubles because of the unscheduled power cuts in most of the villages of our country. She even studied with a kerosene lamp or a mobile torch because of the power cuts.
Her parents collectively earn about Rs 300 a day. Swathi said she wanted to study in an English-medium institution. When her parents could not afford it, the college paid half the fees.
