Assam Woman Gangraped After Drinking Sedative Drink, Private Photos Circulated

Dibrugarh gangrape case: A 21-year-old woman was allegedly gangraped by her classmate, his cousin and one other. The police have arrested on accused in the case in Assam's Dibrugarh area. They are currently on the lookout for the two other accused persons.

As per reports, the woman recently found out that her private photos were circulated without her consent. She then alleged that she was also gangraped by three men six months ago. The police registered her complaint on Saturday. The main accused in the case is the woman's classmate who with the help of three others sedated the woman with a drink and allegedly raped her. The police have said that action is also being taken against the other persons who blackmailed the woman after her photo emerged.

As per the FIR registered in the case, the woman was on her way to college with the prime accused man on his two-wheeler six months when the vehicle apparently broke down. The duo then took a lift in the man's relative's car. During the ride, the woman was allegedly made to drink a sedative-laced drink which made her unconscious. After coming back to her senses, she reportedly found herself in a room at the accused's relative's house. The accused and one other friend of his was also present in the room, Additional Superintendent of police, Bitul Chetia said.
The survivor had reportedly no knowledge of the assault at that time. She suspected that the three men had raped her and taken her nude photos. The police official said that they have sent her for medical examination after recording her statement.
The FIR has been lodged under the charges of gangrape, insult with the intention to provoke breach of peace, criminal act with common intention, criminal intimidation, violation of privacy and publishing or transmitting sexually explicit material.
The police officer said, "There is an allegation that some others tried to blackmail the woman after the nude photo went public. We will initiate separate action for that."
