Daughter of actor Vijay Sethupathi was threatened with rape because of his controversial involvement in a biopic featuring Srilankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan titled 800. Unidentified twitter users threatened the actor's minor daughter with rape. This isn't the first such incident where families of famous personalities have been dragged into controversy and threatened. A few days ago MS Dhoni's daughter was threatened with assault when Dhoni's team lost an IPL match.
Sethupathi withdrew from the film after criticism in Tamil Nadu over his portraying a man who "played fiddle when Lankan Tamils were dying"
Actor Vijay Sethupathi who was to act in the Muralidaran biopic, decided against being in the film, after several personalities opposed the decision of him acting in it. The Srilankan cricketer, Muralidharan is considered a supporter of the Rajapaksa government in Sri Lanka, which reportedly, was deeply involved in a long conflict Tamils settled Sri Lanka and Lankan government forces.
Twitter users objected to his acting in this film and called him a 'betrayer' of Tamils. A handle called @ItsRithikRajh, issued a graphic threat tagging Mr Sethupathi's own handle. Calling the actor a betrayer of Tamils, the tweet said: "Only this (sexual assault) would make him learn about the hardship faced by Lankan Tamils".
The Cyber Cell of Chennai Police registered a case after a rape threat was made on Twitter. The actor later announced he would no longer be acting in the biopic. Kanimozhi tweeted that the intimidation of Sethupathi's daughter was barbaric.
The perverse intimidation of Vijay Sethupathi's #daughter is not only barbaric but extremely dangerous to the very fabric of our society. Making women and children the soft targets is a cowardly act. The police should take stern action against the perpetrator.#VijaySethupathi

Glad the police has filed a case. Hats off to several netizens who took it upon themselves to file a cyber crime complaint.

We need more such people.
As for whoever ‘RithikRaja’ is - I truly hope he is identified.
A man who publishes a rape threat is dangerous to society.
