After her announcement, the audience on the show applauded her and many people extended support to her on social media. The official Human Rights Campaign account in a tweet thanked her for allowing people on “this adventure” with her and for encouraging them to live life openly.

Writer and performer, Bill Corbett wrote, “Eddie Izzard is an absolute comic genius, a great heart who does amazing charity work AND an actual superhero (google her name + ‘marathons’) and I will call her whatever she wants.”
Not that anyone needs to qualify for equal respect by being a superhero like Eddie, but there you go

While another user wrote, “Good for Eddie Izzard asking for the pronouns she/her to be used so publicly. As far as I can gather, she isn't a trans woman - she's gender fluid - but prefers the feminine pronoun. Good for her.”

She also received backlash from people for choosing to be a ‘she’ in spite of being gender fluid. One user wrote, “What does Eddie Izzard mean by “girl mode”? The idea that there is a “girl mode” and a “boy mode” is pure, regressive gender essentialism. I am sick of patriarchal constructs being rebranded as revolutionary when they are anything but.”
