Nodeep Kaur bail granted: Activist Nodeep Kaur, a 25-year-old Haryana-based labour rights activist who was in jail for more than a month, was granted bail by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday.
Kaur was arrested on January 12 amidst the farmers' protests.

Previously, Kaur was reportedly granted bail in two extortion cases lodged against her, however, she remained in jail in relation to a third case alleging offences under Section 307 (attempt to murder), Section 146 (rioting), and Section 353 (assault to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Indian Penal Code. The Court on Friday delivered the judgment and granted her bail in the third case. Kaur will now be released from jail.
Apart from the bail plea moved by #NodeepKaur, the Court had also registered a suo motu case following various complaints about her confinement.

Both the bail plea and the suo motu case are being heard by Justice Avneesh Jhingan.
Kaur has been accused of as many as eleven criminal charges. On January 12, she was protesting in the Kundli industrial area with twenty others, demanding wages, and reportedly had faced clashes with the police.
The Dalit labour activist Kaur had also accused the police of sexual assault under custody. Her sister, Rajveer Kaur, alleged that Kaur "has been beaten up in the police station by male staff and has even been sexually assaulted. There are injuries in her private parts. There should be strict action."

Nodeep Kaur's Bail Plea
In her bail plea, Kaur said that she has been "targeted and falsely implicated in the matter as she was successful in generating massive support in favour of the Farmers' movement," Live Law reported. She has also alleged that after arresting her, cops took her to the police station "in absence of any woman police official" and was "beaten black and blue by the police officials."
Her case garnered international attention when on February 6 Meena Harris, niece of US Vice-President Kamala Harris, tweeted about her arrest saying, "23-year-old labour rights activist Nodeep Kaur was arrested, tortured and sexually assaulted in police custody."
