Renowned fashion designer Satya Paul passed away at the Isha Yoga Centre in Coimbatore on Wednesday. He was 78 years old. Satya Paul was known for revolutionising the Indian fashion industry at a time when designer brands were almost unknown in India. He is credited for bringing contemporary saris on board with the help of superior print innovations. In the 1960s, he started exporting Indian handloom products to well-known stores in America and Europe. In 1980, he also started a saree boutique along with his son and came up with his brand in 1986.
Isha Foundation's founder, Sadhguru, also mourned the death of the designer:

Satya Paul's son Puneet Nanda took to Facebook and shared that his father had survived a stroke earlier in December.
Remembering Satya Paul's Legacy
Paul was born in Leigha, Pakistan, in 1942. Since 2015 Isha Yoga Center was his home. Satya Paul's brand name is associated with stunning designs that have been left behind in sarees, kurtas and many other accessories. He was known for his 'quirky yet elegant' styles which were coupled with vibrant colours and superior fabrics. Many big names from Bollywood have rocked his designs in public. Aishwarya Rai, Shruti Hassan, Dia Mirza and Sonam Kapoor are some of them.

Designer Masaba Gupta who had worked as the creative head for the Satya Paul label from 2012 to 2014 wrote a long message her Instagram story. “A true example of an actual BRAND, homegrown. Put in corporate hands at the right time and one with a signature that will stand the test of time. Fashion schools – Please introduce young Indian design aspirants to this brand in schools and various other homegrown brands. We can be inspired by the story of Chanel etc but we must learn what happened on our soil first," she wrote.
Actor Lakshmi Manchu expressed her remorse on Twitter. "Oh nooooo! He was one of my favourite saree designers. So fun and yet effortless. RIP #SatyaPaul Ji. You filled our lives with your fabrics Colors and design," she tweeted.
