Madhya Pradesh-based influencer Aarti Sahu booked: A Bajrang Dal leader recently lodged a complaint against a social media influencer for filming "obscene" dance videos outside a temple in Chhatarpur city, Madhya Pradesh. The leader accused influencer Aarti Sahu of hurting "religious sentiments of Hindus" with her now-viral videos.
According to an official who is investigating the case, the complaint against Aarti Sahu was lodged by a Bajrang Dal leader after the video of her dancing to Bollywood tracks went viral on Instagram. The leader accused Sahu of dancing outside the Janrai Toriya Mandir, a Ram-Sita temple, in an "obscene manner".
Sahu has 2.5 million followers on her Instagram account, where she posted these controversial videos. In the two viral videos, she was seen dancing on 'Meri sham awadh se ayi hai' from the movie Welcome 2 Karachi starring Jackky Bhagnani, Lauren Gottlieb and Arshad Warsi and 'Daye lage kabhi baye lage' from the movie Cocktail, starring Deepika Padukone, Saif Ali Khan and Diana Penty.
The Sub-Divisional Officer of Police, Chhatarpur, said that following the complaints by the Bajrang Dal leader, Surendra Shivhare, about the videos, the woman identified as Aarti Sahi has been booked under IPC Section 298 (deliberate intention of hurting religious feelings of any person), adding that further legal steps will be taken after examination of the content.
Later in the day, Sahu uploaded a video statement apologising for 'any hurt sentiments'. In the video, she said, "I regret and seek apology from people if my videos hurt their sentiments. It was not my intention." She also said that her family's main source of income is from her Instagram videos. Sahu has removed the controversial videos from her social media feed.
