A purported video of Aam Aadmi Party Member of Legislative Assembly Baljinder Kaur being slapped by her husband during a fight went viral on social media. The incident was reportedly recorded by a CCTV camera on July 10 and took place outside her house in Talwandi Sab, Punjab.
The video shows AAP MLA Baljinder Kaur in an argument with some men and is slapped by a man who is reported to be her husband, Sukhraj Singh. Bystanders intervened after the argument turned physical and separated the two. No formal complaint has been filed by the AAP MLA regarding the incident. Neither Kaur nor Singh have commented on the viral video.

The Punjab State Women Commission chairperson Manisha Gulati said, “I have seen the viral video and we will take suo moto notice in this incident. It is quite upsetting that a woman who raises public issues strongly is facing harassment at home.”
Gulati added, “If an educated person who happens to be an elected legislator undergoes this domestic violence, imagine what must hundreds of women who are not powerful enough to speak up.”
Congress leader Partap Bajwa described the viral video as “disturbing”. He added, “it is a family matter and they should sort it out within the family, but at the same time it is unfortunate that an elected lady lawmaker is going through this”.
Baljinder Kaur got married to the then-AAP youth wing leader Singh in 2019. She is a member of the national executive of AAP and is president of the party’s women's wing in Punjab. Kaur was previously associated with India Against Corruption Movement and joined the Aam Aadmi Party in 2012.
Kaur contested the 2017 Punjab elections from the Talwandi Sabo constituency where she won and was elected as the MLA. She had previously contested from the constituency in 2014 but lost the election.
Before Kaur entered politics, she completed her Master of Philosophy from Punjabi University in 2009 and was a professor of English at Mata Gurji College at Fatehgarh Sahib.
