Defying Ageist Stereotypes, 90-Year-Old Man Gets Hitched To 75-Year-Old Woman

A 90 year old man marries a 75-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh's Rampur and this proves that age is just a number and shouldn't stop one from fulfilling their dreams.  Shafi Ahmed's former wife had passed away a few years ago leaving him with five daughters who are all married now. Shafi Ahmed runs a retail shop to earn livelihood.

The daughters cared for the father after their mother passed away but he missed the company of a life-partner. The daughters understood this and decided to get their old father hitched to a 75-year-old woman.

According to 90-year-old groom Shafi Ahmed, he wants to be taken care of and that's the reason he took this step of getting married. He says that he doesn't have a son to tend to him in his old age and all his daughters are married. Everyone is happy with what he has decided. His wife, on the other hand, married him because she didn't want to live alone and was struggling to get food, as per sources.

It is good to see people breaking ageist stereotypes which stop people doing from certain things due to age. For instance, veteran Bollywood actor Waheeda Rehman was in news last year for pursuing her passions like wildlife photography and scuba diving. In an interview, she said that she had been yearning to learn photography for a long time. But post retirement, she has enough time for the same. She was recently seen snorkelling in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands with her daughter and was praised for not letting her age dictate her life.

Similarly, 90-year-old Urmila Devi in Bihar panchayat polls was contesting for a mukhiya position from her village. At that time, she was the head for Hathini village in Rohtas district – the first woman in that role.
