Tabloid gossip queen and Former “Sex and the City” star Cynthia Nixon will be running for New York Governor after trifling with the idea for several months. She revealed this on her Twitter.

She will be challenging 60-year-old Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a two-term incumbent.
Here are 8 things you need to know about Cynthia Nixon:
- Born and Bred in New York
Nixon, 51, was born April 9, 1966. Born in New York, she grew up on the Upper West side with her mother. She began her acting career at the age of 12.
- A Breast Cancer Survivor
In the year 2006, Nixon was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her condition was caught at an early stage which required a lumpectomy and radiation, but no chemotherapy.

- A Tony, Grammy and Emmy Award Winner
Nixon won an Emmy Award in 2004 for an outstanding supporting actress for her role as lawyer Miranda Hobbes in “Sex and the City”.
She received Tony Awards for her roles in “Rabbit Hole” (2006) and “The Little Foxes” (2017).
She received a Grammy in the year 2009 for her “An Inconvenient Truth” spoken word album.
- A Longtime Activist
She made her first national headlines in politics from 2011 campaign which was a campaign to legalize same-same marriage in New York. She was later honored by GLAAD and the Human Rights Campaign with its Visibility Award for her work backing for marriage equality.
- Bisexual
Nixon has had serious relationships with both men and women. She had often been identified as ‘Bisexual’.
In an interview in 2012, she said that she doesn’t pull out the word ‘bisexual’ because nobody likes the bisexuals. In her views, “Everybody likes to dump on the bisexuals.”

- Relationships
She was in a relationship with David Mozes from 1988 to 2003. The couple has two children Samantha and Charles. Currently, Nixon is married to political activist Christine Marinoni, and the two have a child named Max.
She was heavily involved in LGBTQ rights and lobbied for marriage equality.
- Anti-Trump
Nixon is a vocal critic of President Trump. She has been seen saying against him at various rallies.
- Her Campaign
According to her campaign website, Nixon’s state platform will be focusing on income inequality, renewable energy, access to health care, concerns about mass incarceration, passing the DREAM Act.
In her campaign, she is emphasizing on strengthening and renewing expiring rent laws to avoid “raising rents, and forcing people out of their homes.”
“Together,” Nixon added and said, “we could show the entire country and the world that in the era of Donald Trump, New Yorkers will come together and lead our nation forward.”
If Nixon gets elected, she would be creating history as she will become the first female governor. Also, first openly gay governor in the history of New York.
