In the case of a 28-year-old man allegedly raping an eight-month-old cousin of his, the Supreme Court said that it is “very much concerned” over the health of the baby. The bench consisting of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwikar and D Y Chandrachud decided to continue hearing the plea filed by Alakh Alok Srivastava, a practising advocate of the court on 7 February.
In a hearing held on 31 January, the bench has sought two All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) doctors to review the medical condition of the infant. They want the doctors to tell the court if the child should be shifted to the AIIMS.
In the petition, Srivastava has asked the bench to ensure best medical facilities for the child and immediately transfer her to AIIMS. It seeks a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the victim's parents. It also wants an amendment to the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act involving rape of children below the age of 12 years in such a way that investigation and trial of cases should be completed within six months from the date of registration of the FIR.

Earlier, the chief of Delhi Commission for Women Swati Malliwal visited the child in the hospital. She revealed that the child’s internal organs have been damaged. "She has gone through immense pain, her internal organs have been damaged. They will take a long time to heal," Maliwal told AFP. Malliwal has announced Rs. 50,000 compensation for the girl.
"She's just so small. It's horrific what she's gone through."
On January 28, the man had allegedly raped the infant in a locality near Netaji Subhash Place in north-west Delhi. Her mother found her lying in a pool of blood when she returned home from work. They immediately took her to Kalawati Saran Children's Hospital.

The baby underwent a three-hour-long surgery to repair the tears in her private parts. The doctor told the media that while she is currently stable and in the ICU. They performed the surgery on the infant on Tuesday morning.
The Delhi Police has arrested the accused who has confessed to raping the girl on Sunday under the influence of alcohol. The girl’s parents used to leave their child in the custody of their sister-in-law while going for work. But since it was a Sunday, the sister-in-law’s son was also at home. The police told that when the man found that his mother was not around, he grabbed the opportunity and forced himself on the little girl.
The girl’s mother who works as a domestic help returned around 12.30 and found blood stains on the girl’s clothes. This is when she informed her husband about it and they both rushed her to the hospital.
