Over 28 people were arrested by the police for stone-pelting. The arrested individuals were allegedly attacking the police officers demanding the accused to be handed over to them to 'deliver swift justice'.
Here is what we know of the case:
- As per the police, the alleged incident took place around 10 am on Sunday. The accused took the girl out on the pretext of offering her food but led her to the bushes behind her house and allegedly raped her and then killed her.
- The police officer told the reporters, "The girl had injuries on her private parts and neck. The cause of death will be known after a post-mortem, which will be conducted by a medical board on Monday. The accused is a neighbour and was a frequent visitor to their house. He admitted he was drunk at the time."
- The deceased girl's father is a labourer from UP. Her family had celebrated her birthday on Saturday where the accused along with other neighbours were present.
- The girl's father said that the accused had been living as their tenant for the past 6-7 months. He claimed that the man had taken his daughter out earlier also but not for a long time. On Sunday, the accused allegedly took her out for a long time and when she was not back for a while, the man's wife informed him to go look out for her.
- "He started to run and was caught by the villagers. My daughter was lying motionless on the ground and was bleeding… There were some bite marks on her neck and bruises. We took her to a government hospital, where doctors said she was dead… All I want is justice. I wanted to enrol her in a school, but then Covid came and schools shut,” said the girl’s father.
- The police have lodged an FIR against the accused under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 376 (2) (i) (rape), Section 6 of the POCSO Act and sections 3 (1) (i) and 3 (2) (v) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities Act).
- The girl's mother said that she had left the house for 20 minutes leaving her daughter with her neighbours. When she came back, the accused man had left with her daughter.
- The landlord of the room in which the accused was living said, "After she went missing, we looked for her for two and a half hours. At 1 pm, a teenage boy saw the accused carrying the girl in his arms. The accused seemed to be intoxicated. The boy alerted the villagers, who caught him. He was found sitting next to her body, not far from her house,” said the landlord of the room the accused had rented.
- The post-mortem report of the girl's body confirmed that she had been raped and throttled. There were several injuries in her genitalia along with face and neck, Dr Deepak Mathur, a forensic expert was reported saying.
- The accused man was sent to judicial custody on Monday, said DCP HQ Ashta Modi, who has additional charge of DCP South.
