Dr. Maya Angelou became a great writer and poet, only since she drew from an illustrious life rife with experiences that made her not only sharply insightful, but also immensely wise. Following her path would definitely lead to enlightenment- especially keeping at heart these five pieces of advice, and abiding by them sincerely:
1. Courage, the most important virtue:
Dr. Maya always said, that no matter what you do, what virtue you harbor and what cause you choose to champion as a result of it - the one virtue that will help you stand firmly by all of the others, is courage. Hence, always hone your courage, and you will always find it in you to stand by your resolve.
2. Don't be Defeated by Your Failures:
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. And you certainly learn more from your failures than you do from your victories. Thus, Dr. Maya asked us to be undeterred by the little defeats, and never let them define who you are.
3. Always pass on the Torch:
The greatest joy is that of giving. Never cease to share what you have with others who don't. Especially when it comes to knowledge. They say when you pass on the torch of knowledge, it won't dwindle; it will multiply and start a fire.
4. Be Good to People:
She had come to learn, that little actions don't matter, their consequences do. While an act of hurting is temporary, the scars that remain as a result will be permanent. Similarly, a small act of kindness and love will find you a place in one's heart forever.
5. Never settle for mediocrity, when you're meant for greatness:
Dr. Angelou encouraged everyone to constantly be the best version of themselves, and never settle for being just normal, like everyone else- for you'll never know how much better you could have been. Like the mad hatter said in Alice in Wonderland- "You're mad. Bonkers. Off your head. But I'll tell you a secret- all of the best people are."
