Understanding the pressing need to promote girls’ education, a Rajasthan bride reportedly requested her father before her wedding to use the money reserved for her dowry in the noble cause of constructing a girls’ hostel. 4. Bride cancels wedding after groom shows up drunk
A bride in Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh showed great courage by refusing to get married to the groom after he showed up drunk at the wedding venue. The incident took place on November 7 this year. The bride took the decision on realising that the groom was so inebriated that he couldn’t even stand properly. P Nisha, a Tamil Nadu bride after getting hitched, wielded sticks and weapons to perform a set of martial arts, in a bid to raise awareness about the need for women to know self-defence. IAS officer Tapasya Parihar secured 23rd rank in the UPSC examination. She refused to kanyadaan on her wedding by telling her father, 'I am not a charity thing, I am your daughter.' In an interview, she said that she didn't like this ideology of giving away daughters since childhood. How can someone donate her without her wish, she used to wonder. Her husband and family were quite supportive of her decision and agreed to it. Her marriage took place without giving any Kanyadaan.
