It was a proud moment for India on Sunday at the AIBA Women’s Youth World Championships when the country's boxers clinched five gold medals on the final day on Sunday (Nov 27). With this, India topped the medals' chart and became overall champions for the first time.

"It was an easier final compared to the semifinals. I did not find it too tough to break through," said Nitu, one of the four Haryana finalists at the event, TOI reported.
Interestingly, while the women boxers are making waves now by putting India on the world map, all of them come from remote corners of the country and that’s empowering

On Sunday, the boxers put India on the world map. They surpassed records of some of the well-known champions.
“When she told us about boxing, we were a bit angry. She was a good dancer, so we would tell her to do that and discouraged boxing,” says Jyoti’s father Maman Singh, a farmer, Indian Express reported. She defeated Ekaterina Molchanova of Russia in her final.
