4/8 Women Candidates Win In Arunachal Pradesh

Four women candidates from the Bharatiya Janata Party have clinched victories in the recent elections, signalling a development in Arunachal Pradesh's political history, where since the inception of assembly elections in 1978, a total of 17 women have held positions as representatives. Throughout this period, 59 women leaders have actively contested for various offices, showcasing a gradual but notable shift towards gender inclusivity in the state's governance.

Notably, Dasanglu Pul won the Hayuliang assembly seat without facing any opposition, demonstrating the broad support she received and the development projects carried out by the current chief minister's government.

Another BJP candidate, Nyabi Jini Dirchi, easily won the Basar seat, defeating Golak Basar, the current National People's Party (NPP) MLA, by more than 1,700 votes. In Khonsa West, the BJP's Chakat Aboh defeated Yang Sen Matey by more than 800 votes, taking the seat from the NPP.

Tsering Lhamu, the saffron party's candidate, also won the Lumla constituency, defeating her Congress opponent, Jampa Thirnly Kunkhap, by more than 1,500 votes. Before the 2019 elections, the BJP held this constituency. Dasanglu Pul expressed her gratitude and stated that the electorate's unwavering support and backing of the development model backed by Chief Minister Pema Khandu were the reasons behind her unopposed win.

Since the inaugural assembly elections in 1978 until the present, the Arunachal Pradesh assembly has elected 17 female representatives, with 59 female leaders running for office during this time.

Gender parity and inclusive governance in the state have advanced significantly with the increasing presence of women in the current assembly. The dreams and hopes of their people are carried by the recently elected female legislators as they take on their tasks. They also must promote women's empowerment and advance Arunachal Pradesh's overall development. Their inclusion in the legislature is evidence of the state's dedication to promoting a representative and inclusive democracy.
