Finally, women are being given a fair chance in the defense sector. It was known to many that the army was preparing to introduce women marines to combat roles, but according to Hot Air, they are already in the process of evaluating the women on the job.
The report states that the women warriors are currently being studied to see if they can adapt to the “needs of the Corps without compromising on the requirements for the job.” This process will be a few months long, by the end of which, a decision will be made.
The various tasks that the women will be required are difficult for most men. These would include, dragging a wounded comrade to safety under simulated battle conditions, among other things. Considering most men are heavier than women, this will be a huge challenge. Due to a serious issue, the previous tests that were conducted had to be postponed because nearly half the women were unable to do three pull-ups in the required time.
There has been a serious debate on whether women should be introduced to combat roles, where many feel that the anatomy of women may prove to be a disadvantage to them; others admire the army giving them a fair chance to prove themselves.
Marine Lance Cpl. Vicki Harris, a 4-foot, 11-inch, 110-pound military clerk from Cambridge, Ohio says, “Everybody thinks that we’re not good enough and can’t do everything males can do, I want to get out there and prove them wrong.”
Harris is currently training in North Carolina. By next year, the researches will observe and decide how the troops of both the sexes perform together in combat, with the help of high-tech sensors.
